𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 𝐌𝐄 I graduated in May of 2022 with a Bachelor's in Industrial and Innovative Design. The next day I flew halfway across the world with some of my classmates and one of our professors. We spent a week in Kosovo, giving talks on design, teaching English, and acting as judges in their first ever STEM fair. That experience helped me understand the role that design plays in providing a new way of seeing the world, especially in a country that is just learning how to dream for the first time. I brought that experience into my first job post-grad, a small design firm in Columbus, OH. Design is much more than the form or even the function of a product, it's asking questions and being open to an unexpected answer. 𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐈 𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍: When I was in 7th grade, I was introduced to STEAM through a national science competition. From a young age, being encouraged to engage with and imagine a new future completely shifted my outlook of the world. Ever since then, it's been my goal to engage with the most challenging obstacles of our time, and I chose to do so through the practice of design. 𝐌𝐘 𝐏𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒: I love understanding how and why things work, whether that's getting lost in the details of my coffee routine, listening to podcasts on niche topics, or just paying attention to the world around me. As a kid I was always tinkering, taking toys apart, building my own toys and generally just asking the question, “WHY!”. I always felt that there had to be a good reason why things were done the way they are. I found myself wanting to explore that more and push myself to see if I could create things in a better way. I studied Industrial Design and received a BS from the University of California, Long Beach. After college I decided to take advantage of every experience I was going to have in my career and use it to my advantage. Think of it as my graduate degree where I could get paid, earn real world experience and learn different ways to solve problems (it just took a little longer). During this time, I developed the core values that I bring to every project. Think differently. Be better. Take care of people and the environment. Challenge everything and be part of the solution. For the last decade and a half, I’ve worked for small and large companies alike. I’ve designed furniture for a well-known furniture designer, John Caldwell. I worked consumer electronics for Pentagram and Lenartstudios. Designing for large companies like Motion Computing, Fujistu, Jibe Audio, LG, Memorex, Dell and E-ink. I found my calling when working for Specialized designing cycling shoes. I rounded out my design experience learning about packaging design. My time at Uneka taught me about how the entire product design experience comes together and gets delivered to the consumer. All of these experiences have molded me into the designer I am today. Passionate, thoughtful, inquisitive and purposeful in my approach. However, it is this passion to do better that drives me.
