This project involved designing and optimizing custom rolling storage carts for punches and dies used in a bending machine. The client required a cost-effective and scalable solution because purchasing standard industrial storage units was prohibitively expensive. Instead, these custom-designed carts provided a tailored, efficient, and cost-saving alternative.
Project Overview:
• Three unique designs were created to meet different storage needs:
1. Punch Storage Cart – Dedicated to storing punches securely
2. Die Storage Cart – Designed specifically for organizing dies
3. Combined Storage Cart – A hybrid solution that accommodates both punches and dies
• The designs were developed considering the actual weight and dimensions of the punches and dies. All measurements were precisely taken to ensure proper load distribution and ease of access.
• Material and Construction:
• The punch storage system was built using bent metal plates at precise angles to provide secure support.
• The die storage system was designed with metal tubes, topped with plastic plates to reduce wear and tear on the dies.
• Each cart was equipped with locking caster wheels for mobility and stability during use.
• Efficiency & Cost Savings:
• The modular design allowed the client to produce as many units as needed, reducing dependency on costly commercial alternatives.
• The carts were tested in real-world conditions, with video documentation of the first prototype confirming high user comfort and practicality.
• The final solution significantly improved organization, accessibility, and durability in the workspace.
