Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, and the premise is the same as golf. When throwing the discs, they may hit objects then develop scratches. These scratches create an uncomfortable game and wear down the disc.
The client wanted us to create a device that would smooth the disc without removing excess material and maintain even weight distribution.
We created an advanced cutter using a razor blade. It had a few major features:
- Blade would always be tangent to plane it was cutting
- Angle of the blade would always be fixed so it would cut the disc carefully
- Holds additional sandpaper to smooth out rough edges if needed
Every dimension and angle was carefully chosen through prediction and trial and error.
This was a team effort, and I'm so glad I got to work with this team.
