Existing Drilling Line Spool to Electric
- Former Spool is the reel of Rig – 1-1/8 drilling line wire rope.
- The Spool has a maximum of about 8000ft length of wire rope capacity.
- Spooling and unspooling were being done using manila rope being pull by the crane auxiliary hoist.
Replacement
- Existing rack is made of tubulars , need to be replaced as signs of rust and deterioration.
Installation
-Using the old scraped chain ANSI 160, we can create a driven spool.
-The ANSI 160 scraped chain can be taken from the scraped rotary table chain from Rig.
-A sprocket with 21 tooth or using the old rotary table sprocket we can have a driver that can rotate the spool.
-A drive motor can be coupled to the sprocket to serve as main drive.
-The motor can be an 3 phase electric explosion proof type motor.
- The main motor can be installed with a control switch to have a forward and reverse rotation required during spooling & unspooling.
Summary
- The modification enabled rig up and rig down activity to be more efficient and cheaper compared to the old setup.
- The modification not cost much in terms of capital expense as most of the materials like chain, spool, bearing and rack will come either from the existing or used parts of the rig.
