The lamination heat treatment machine is one of the oldest machines in our factory. Its machine part gearbox casing was worn off so we would have to either order it or have to fabricate it. So, since we have our own metal casting plant, we decided to reverse engineer the product and redesign it to fabricate it. I used FAARO 3d scanning machine to scan the existing cover, and then I imported the scanned data into Solidworks and used mesh modeling to scan from the graphic body to mesh body. Then I manually draw the geometry over the mesh body and prepare the part for the sand casting procedure. I have added a shrinkage allowance also as per gray cast iron ( 1%) to accumulate the shrinkage rate of sand casting, then tested by using mold tools to see if the redesigned product is moldable or not.
