This is a medical ventilation device designed for the COVID-19 pandemic and provides a Continuous Mandatory Ventilation (CMV) and is a hand powered 3D printable Ventilator. This ventilator provides multiple adjustments including PEEP setting, Tidal Volume and Flow rate adjustment. It is used for mandatory ventillation mode and provides assistance for both inhalation and exhalation. There are 3 valves in total : Inhalation, Exhalation and one valve that takes in air from atmosphere during inhalation phase and lets out air during exhalation phase. The valves are to be tied down to the body using rubber bands to provide pressure. The valves are pressure controlled and open due to air pressure and close due to elastic tension in the rubber bands. The inhalation and exhalation phases can be alternated using the knob provided at the top of the body. The design has Tidal volume adjuster and pins for setting a tidal volume and screws for adjusting PEEP before the operation. I have also added an oxygen valve which is a one way valve that allows flow of a fluid in only one direction. I have also added a butterfly valve in front of the oxygen valve to control the amount of oxygen being supplied to the patient. I have also added lofts for all the vents so that the dimensions can be changed easily to fit the required diameter of the pipes being used for the oxygen inhalation or exhalation pipe of the endotracheal tube.
Note: The variables of the design (such as Tidal Volume, PEEP, Oxygen % aka FiO2 and flow rate of inhalation/exhalation) must be set by a professional or an Intensive Care Specialist. Do not try to do it yourself, as any incorrect variations/calculations could lead to severe irreversible damage to the patients lungs and can also lead to death. Since this device provides a Continuous Mandatory Ventilation (CMV) proper precautions must be taken and the patient must be sedated. The device can be operated by any ordinary person once the variables have been set by a professional/intensive care specialist.
