Sponge Stick for Scientific Sampling

This product is used as a sampling tool for food scientists. The goal of this project was to redesign and improve the current tool out in the market and then manufacturer ourselves in hop of saving money. After prototyping a few iterations using our 3D printer, I settled on a designed, tested numerous prototypes and then reached out to manufacturers in China. I led communicated with a few companies before narrowing down the price and purchasing the tool. I also managed the sourcing and production of the sponge, selecting manufacturing equipment and developing the optimal process to cut sponges to size. The result of the project was a success, saving $1 a stick and upwards of $350,000/yr.
