Open innovation is shaking things up, and Cad Crowd is excited to be at the forefront of this new design creative paradigm! We’ve always got a number of crowdsourcing design contests underway, with members submitting solutions to all kinds of design problems. Here’s a recap of four of the challenges that are currently open to submissions. Good luck to all the designers!
The challenge here is to design a rugged case for a 3D scanner that is appropriate for a job site. Expensive, sophisticated equipment in a construction zone is always a costly accident waiting to happen. A tough, functional protective shell is always a great asset, but it can’t interfere with the functionality of the machine, and it’s got to come in at the appropriate price point. And as with any product design, it never hurts to look good.
With 27 different designers competing, this is one popular design contest! There is a whole range of different solutions on offer, and it will be difficult for the contest holder to select a winner! The challenge here is to design an edgy and cool cologne bottle for men. The rub? It has to incorporate an N into the design of the bottle. This sleek entry takes a novel, minimalist approach, displaying almost an abstract representation of the letter using three diagonal stripes. It’s like a deconstructed N, or something. Very cool!
This a truly unique design challenge. The goal is to produce a retro-looking condenser microphone with a 1920s aesthetic. The kicker (and it’s a big one) is that the company is looking to create the world’s first modular microphone. That is, a microphone with interchangeable capsules and circuitry for different studio recording applications. Participants will need to put their thinking caps on this for this one! A very technical contest.
The idea behind this challenge is to design a piece of exercise equipment to facilitate doing sit-ups without a partner. The challenge is to come up with a design that is light and portable, but still services the function of keeping one’s feet in place so they can do those crunches! Of course, the next step is to actually do the crunches. If only there was prize money to be won from that!
Is your firm interested in harnessing the potential of open innovation? Try hosting your own design challenge! You set the parameters of the contest with your detailed project description. You set the prize amount, and you select the winners! Pay only for the winning designs. Find out more.
