Many interior design services are switching to 3D software in order to make their work faster and more impressive to their customers. This trend is still ongoing and there are a few offices that still prefer 2D sketches and swatches of cloth or paint samples over a beautiful 3D rendering. If your office is still holding out, here are 5 common myths that many people believe. Could one of these be holding your company back?
Myth #1: It’s too difficult to learn 3D CAD
Of course, any new program will have something of a learning curve, but many programs are actually very easy to understand and can be learned in as little as one week. Some 3D programs will allow you to use premade 3D objects as well as a drag and drop interface that is easy to use. More complicated programs may take more time but can often still be learned quickly and easily.
Myth #2: You’ll have to shut down while you learn it
Even if it does only take a week or two to learn a new program, shutting down is just not a possibility for many smaller design teams, especially if it’s a business for just one or two people. Luckily, you don’t have to shut down or even slow down if you handle it right. Instead, you can phase in 3D objects slowly, using it for just one part at a time until you learn more.
Myth #3: It’s too expensive
While it’s true some software can cost thousands of dollars, there are many programs that are actually free or very low priced. Google SketchUp has a free version that will allow you to start learning the software right away, and there are many other free CAD programs available.
Myth #4: You can’t use 2D tools once you’ve switched to 3D
Many people use both 2D sketches and 3D rendering in their work, and that’s just fine. You don’t have to only use 3D renders once you have learned how to complete them, but they will make your work faster, easier, and more accurate when you do.
Myth #5: You don’t need to learn it for your interior design style
You may think 2D sketches are just fine for your business, and they might be – for now, but as more millennials become clients, you may lose business as they look to more high tech solutions.
3D renders can help your clients understand what you are doing more clearly, and help set you apart from the rest of the industry. Don’t let these common myths stop you from taking your interior design into the future.
