We have been asked by the client to:
1. Make the current prototype longer
2. Make it flexible so that it will bend around soft curves and 90-degree corners when installed as well as for packaging purposes (see Attachment #2).
3, Product design length shall be customizable by cutting or other methods of users' desired length.
4. The desired cost should be under $25
1. Lengthen the entire device from 96" to 240" (preferred length is 240 inches)
a.) Vertical below and above surface barrier component Dimensions (LxWxH) are 96x 0.88 x 6 inches or 2,438.4X 22.352 x 152.4 mm
b.) The horizontal surface barrier must be flexible to bend/expandable to cover corners and curves Dimensions (LxWxH) are 96 x .1875 x 1.25 inches or 2,438.4 x 4.7625 x 31.75 mm
2. Redesign the lawn edger to make it flexible so that it can bend around curves, and corners, with a minimum of 90 and up to a 180-degree angle. Keep in mind that the product will be rolled for packaging/retail. See Attachment #3 for reference of similar products packaged.
(Note: Contestant can submit a draft for review and feedback )
2. A 3D animated video, demonstrating how it is unwrapped from the packaging (like Attachment #3), installed in the grass, and bends around curves and hard corners in both directions.
- SolidWorks
- Product design that does not use standard manufacturing equipment and tooling.
- Product that does not meet the evaluation criteria provided above.
Want :
1. New CAD designs in solid works
2. A 3D animated video demonstrating how it is unwrapped from the packaging (like Attachment #3), installed in the grass, and bends around curves and hard corners in both directions.

Please see the response to the questions provided:
1.) Do you have a particular material in mind that the edger should be made from?
(Ans) No, there’s no particular material required. The current material submitted but not final is polyurethane. We are looking for the best material and solution to meet customer&;s requirements.
2.) What is the minimum radius you want for going round bends?
(Ans) The center Please see the attached sketch. Let me know if it doesn’t answer your questions.
3.) Attachment is not a CAD file as you have stated. It is only a PDF. So, I am confused as to what it is you want. Just change the drawing or do you want a CAD model and a new drawing? You are also VERY specific about what you DO NOT want in a video. That seems odd. Can you verify that you DO NOT WANT a new design OR a video.?
(Ans) My apology for the confusion.
(a) The final drawing will need to be in CAD model (for designers and engineers) but we will also need a pdf (management).
(b) Please proceed with providing new CAD drawings. However, will also submit current CAD drawings just in case that helps.
(c) The current design was provided as a reference for making changes or adding to accomplish the goal, which is flexibility (see attached) and extended length (3 -20 ft). There are key components to use in your new or revised design. The first is a surface barrier that sits on the hard surface (cerement, pavement, asphalt, etc.); and the second is the vertical barrier that goes into the ground. Together the current design eliminates the need to edge and prevents overgrowth on the surface.
How the designer chooses to design and the type of material used to design is up to the contestant.
(d) Shall we alter the dimensions as per our design modifications? Yes, the dimensions can be altered. The main requirement per customer is to extend the length from 1 ft. to 20 ft, with 3 ft being the minimum.
4.) Shall we alter the dimensions as per our design modifications?
Ans) The dimensions can be altered to meet requirements. However, the requested length is 3ft to 20f.
Problem: The current design prevents grass from growing on the hard surface. It has a low profile so it won’t interfere with the lawn mower (see video). However, the customer needs this design to be 20ft (min. 3ft) and flexible to bend around curves/corners. This is difficult with a plastic surface barrier (horizontal part) won’t allow flexible bends.

I have two questions
1. Do you have a particular material in mind that the edger should be made from?
2. What is the minimum radius you want for going round bends?
Thanks
