Description:
Many of the WDT tools available online follow the same design pattern. The WDT tool holder/stand usually follows the same design pattern as well. I am looking to get some designs that plays with other possible designs a tool like this could have.

Ultimately, I am looking to create a premium tool and tool holder/stand that has durability, heft, and a premium feel for home baristas. This usually lives on someone’s countertop so it’s necessary to be pleasing to the eye and have a modern aesthetic.

I would also like to see some designs that play with the tactile nature of this tool. Making espresso is an event in someone’s day and the tools that are used should be satisfying to make that event as enjoyable as possible. Enjoyable snaps and clicks would be ideal to have.

Color would also be an interesting element to play with as well. Much of the coffee accessory market is dominated by black and white. I like those colors but seeing some other variations that are eye catching would be nice.

The design should be able to accommodate the use of 0.3 mm needles/tines.

Please see potential logo options attached to this post. I would like to see design variants that use each logo.

Here are some common complaints from customers regarding this tool:
• Cheap, poor quality materials
• Needles bend easily just from normal use
• Magnetic base poorly adheres
• Tool does not attach well to the base
• Pins are so thin they do not adequately redistribute the coffee grounds

WDT explanation:

WDT (Weiss Distribution Technique) is a distribution method for espresso making. Using a tool which contains small needles (usually 0.2 to 0.4mm), the barista stirs up the coffee. The stirring action breaks up any clumps, and evenly distributes the coffee within the portafilter. The result is reduced channelling, and higher, more even espresso extraction.

@GalaxyRobotics The typical diameters you see for portafilters range from 51mm to 58mm in diameter. So if the tool is meant to sit on top of the portafilter to distribute the grounds there may need to be multiple versions of the tool to accommodate the 51mm to 58mm size range.

Hello,
I intend on submitting an entry. I just had a quick question on the diameter of the WDT tool. What is the diameter of the puck that the WDT would be expected to sit on top of? Also, would you like the WDT base to be magnetized for adhesion to the puck?
Thanks in advance,

The intent was for human operation as the practice of doing WDT is typically very delicate and can change depending on how the coffee grounds are distributed in the portafilter upon initially dumping them in.

Hi Zacharyl1
Do you plan to go only for manual ( human powered / operated ) WDT tool Or a motor operated WDT tools is also good to go ?

@lucky_luke typically the full needle length is 50mm. The needle bit/mount length can vary but on the Normcore WDT tool it&;s 4mm. The bit/mount diameter is 0.4 mm. The needle thickness is 0.3mm.

Hi Zachary, what are an exact dimensions of the needles? Apart from an overall length I would need a length and diameter of a "mount" side of the needle.

Hey Martin, I was considering aluminum but have not determined the grade of aluminum. I&;m trying to ensure there is some weight to the final product but wanted to use aluminum to likely keep the cost done in the machining process. Does that help?

Hello Zachary, you have a very interesting project and really well explained. Thanks for that.
Do you have any kind of preference on regard of material to use?

Indoor Privacy Bed Tent
Design an indoor tent which is free standing and fits a twin mattress at the base of the tent. The tent can be floorless, but needs to be free standing on the top of a standard bed. The tent needs to provide privacy for the person sleeping on the mattress, and will be ventilated with two windows at either end with mesh covering and have large U shaped doors on either side operated by zippers.
Christmas Light String and Attachment Pieces Design
I am looking for a product designer/drafter to create an indoor LED holiday string light with detachable bulb covers (globes). My initial thought is to have the globes made of acrylic (because of how it reflects light) but I am open to other suggestions. The light bases should be spaced 4 inches apart and be more aesthetically pleasing than traditionally marketed Christmas lights (see reference picture A). I am looking for a 25 bulb light string and a 50 bulb light string. The globes should be large enough to have an image printed on them with a UV printer (if using acrylic) but not too large that they take away from the overall design. I need a creative and quick way to attach/detach the globes to the light bases. I DO NOT want the globes to screw in like a traditional light bulb (too much risk of images on the globes not lining up). I would like the light string to function as both battery operated and plug in. A product on the market exists already for a plug attachment piece to use as reference (see reference B). I would need a designer to let m know if you can make the connection from the preexisting design to the light string any less clunkier. I would also need a designer to create the battery operated attachment. The string light should also be able to connect to other sets seamlessly (no large gap in between strings which oftentimes happens with indoor string lights). I will need a design that can be used to create the prototype for the 25 bulb light string/50 bulb light string including globes, connection point between globe and light base, and both attachment pieces (wired and battery option). At a minimum, this includes but is not limited to a 2D design with dimensions, images of all angles needed to create the prototype, material recommendations and 3D 360 image of the product.

Kids Innovative Equestrian Saddle Design
We are looking for a professional spec sheet/drawing of a children's equestrian barrel racing saddle with very unique features! The purpose of this drawing will be to help provide specs to a supplier so we can have a first prototype. First, the saddle will be using a standard kids saddle tree but will neoprene instead of leather with a cordura wrap over the neoprene for weatherproofing and durability (100 D cordura)! This exists today, but in adult sizes. Good examples of youth sizes we will need are here (good for dimensional references: http://www.saddleonline.com/blogs/content/how-fit-saddle-child-or-youth) I'd like to start with 12" and 14" seat sizes. I would like this to weigh no more than 12 lbs. This is the exact saddle I want but with the features below and in children size seats: brazilliansaddle.com The first unique feature will be a cinch strap that is "ratcheting" versus traditional leather that is pulled through and tightened with holes. This will make it easy for a child to tighten. The ratchet can be aluminum or steel but must have a padding that velcro over so it doesn't scrape the leg of the rider or the horses side. It should be as thin in profile as integrally possible. An example of the ratchet style I like is here: http://www.hamptonproducts.com/product/details/07507?v=c. The hooks should lay flat however, and there should be holes on the slack so someone can essential put the one end of the cinch in and tighten the rest of the way with the ratchet. The second feature is a fold up "step" that will be on the left side of the saddle if a rider is sitting on it and behind the stirrup. The "step" can be nylon with a plastic bar for the bottom of the foot. It must be able to be coiled up and snapped up onto the saddle when not in use. The third feature is a gel seat that will provide added comfort for the rider. The third feature are storage on the back and sides of the saddle (a built on saddle pack) that can hold a water bottle and phone. It would be awesome to show this in a cactus pattern just to get the idea across that we want something fun and do various patterns. See attachments.
Invisible suspenders | Prize includes royalties
Looking to create a new type of consumer accessory that serves the same function as suspenders, but designed in a way that allows the accessory to remain unseen. The idea is to help consumers keep their pants up, without the use of traditional over-the-shoulder suspenders, and as a bonus, possibly also help keep shirts tucked. The article (link below) covers the topic and shares some existing market solutions, none of which are consumer friendly enough. https://undershirtguy.com/flat-butt-how-to-keep-your-pants-from-falling-down/ The material used in this new suspender-alternative accessory has to be somewhat soft and body friendly, since it will likely come in contact with the skin. With that in mind, I am initially thinking this could be made of a rubber type of material, or possibly a blend of silicone and santoprene. However, let's not restrict the idea to only that material category, if you think something else will written better. One possible design solution is two-part product: 1. one that sits on the inside of the shirt or undershirt, that has a protrusion, and 2. a fastener that attaches on the outside of the shirt or undershirt to lock the accessory to the shirt or undershirt. In the concept above, the accessory assembly essentially creates a subtle ridge that the pants waistline can rest on, possibly with the assistance of a belt. The one potential drawback to the above design, is that the consumer must either wear their shirt tucked in, or wear an undershirt. Not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind. Another possible direction would be to have the accessory attach to the pants inside waistline somehow, and be made from a material that has enough height and grip with the skin or underwear to prevent the pants from sliding down. Though, the solution would have to be as reliable as suspenders. The accesory should be super simple to use, and also be removable and reusable, like suspenders. Clean, simple, friendly. Think Apple simple and clean, Sonos, Simple Human. As part of this contest, should this product be brought to market, I am creating an additional financial incentive of a limited royalty agreement that will be split between Cad Crowd and the designer. The proposed, and Cad Crowd approved, limited royalty structure royalty would be $0.50 usd per unit-assembly sold (50/50 split between Cad Crowd and the winning designer) for the first 10,000 pieces sold.
