Response to Alirezat:

Thank you for your interest in the Whimsy Stick project.

I am always open to ideas for improving the overall design, but this particular contest is specifically focused on the clasp system that connects the plush toy to the pole. Here are the key points:

Focus of the Contest:

The primary goal is to replace the current Palomar knot method used to attach the plush toy to the Whimsy Stick with a more user-friendly clasp system.
Both the plush toy and the pole will have eyelets, and ideally, the clasp system should work efficiently on both ends, although this is not imperative.
Requirements for the Clasp System:

The clasp should be simple and user-friendly to make replacing the plush toy easy.
The current problem is that the Palomar knot can come undone and needs to be untied and retied when replacing the plush toy. The new system should eliminate this issue.
We are open to innovative ideas, such as a small loop that holds the plush toy&;s head through friction and a clasp system focusing on attaching the line to the pole.
Design Considerations:

The clasp should be durable and safe for dogs, without adding significant weight that could damage their teeth.
It should maintain the versatility of the toy, allowing for chasing, catching, and pulling without the toy coming undone.
We look forward to your creative solutions that address these needs. To answer your question:

No, the toy does not need to be released at the end of the game. The Whimsy Stick is designed to keep the toy affixed to the line during play sessions. The goal is to provide a durable and secure connection that only requires changing when the toy becomes overused and worn out. The current challenge is that the Palomar knot method can come undone, necessitating the development of a more user-friendly clasp system.

The key objective is to simplify the process for users when it comes time to replace the plush toy. This should ensure a seamless and enjoyable experience for both the pet and the owner.

Thank you for contributing to the Whimsy Stick project.

Best regards,
Chris Moran

Do you only want to replace the "Palomar knot" with newer type of stick or you want to update the whole system?

do you want to release the toy when dog catches it or when dog is done with its game

Question from Dosunmu:

Q: Do you want the clasp to be removable or fixed to the toy?
A: The clasp should be removable to allow for easy attachment of different lures.
Q: If you want it movable, do you prefer it to be elastically fixed to the toy like a wristband or another mechanism?
A: The clasp should not be elastic; it should be a fixed structure to ensure stability under pressure.
Q: Which type of material do you want for the clasp?
A: Durable, dog-safe materials like high-quality plastic or coated metal are preferred.
Q: Do you want the clasp to be a separate material that can be bought in the market or should it become one that can be sold in the market with the toy?
A: Ideally, the clasp should be a separate unit that can be bought in the market. Integrating it as one piece with the line is also acceptable.
Q: What is the main goal you want this clasp to achieve for you in the market?
A: The main goal is to provide ease of changing lures for the user.
Question from Chiranjeevi:

Q: Is the stick manufactured with the eyelet at the end as shown in the renders?
A: Yes, the pole has an eyelet at the end as shown in the renders.
Q: Can we use some sort of carabiner to attach the toy&;s rope?
A: While utilizing off-the-shelf components like carabiners can help keep manufacturing costs down, bulky metal carabiners are not suitable as they add too much weight and can potentially damage the dog&;s teeth. A lightweight and safe custom solution is needed.
Q: Should the rope side also be modified to have a loop?
A: Yes, the rope should have a loop for easy attachment to the clasp system.
Q: This way all your components are off the shelf, no need for expensive custom tooling. We can get away with a jig or a tabletop manual assisted assembly machine.
A: Utilizing off-the-shelf components can help, but a custom, lightweight, and safe clasp solution is necessary to avoid these issues.

The Whimsy Stick measures 48 inches in length. The plush squirrel toy that attaches to it is 12 inches long. The string connecting the plush toy to the Whimsy Stick rod is approximately 36 inches long, ensuring that the combined length of the rod and the attached toy matches the full length of the rod. This design allows for optimal play and interaction for your pet.

Is there a website to reference for the Handle Rod Tip&;s Diameter or could the Handle Rod Tip&;s, thickness be approximated?

Yes, using Rhino and submitting an STL file is perfectly fine. Feel free to proceed with your design using Rhino. Looking forward to your submission!
