Description:
Hello Designers!

We are launching an exciting project to design the ToothSafe, an integral part of an illustrated children's picture book titled The Tooth Fairy's Secret Workshop. The ToothSafe is a whimsical, magical container designed to hold a child's lost tooth and, later, a thank-you dollar bill from the Tooth Fairy. This item is meant to be used repeatedly over the years as the child loses more teeth, creating a special ongoing ritual tied to our story. We are looking for creative designers to bring this product to life, focusing on durability, playfulness, and a sense of wonder.

Product Overview:
The ToothSafe is a magical container used to store a child's lost tooth and later hold a dollar bill from the Tooth Fairy, adding to the magic of the Tooth Fairy tradition and making her work tangible. In the story, the young boy finds the ToothSafe during his adventure to the Tooth Fairy's magical workshop. The ToothSafe is a device crafted by the Tooth Fairy herself, which the boy replicates to share with other curious children. This connection to the story makes the ToothSafe feel like a genuine piece of the Tooth Fairy’s world, enhancing the magic for children who use it.

It will glow in the dark, making it easy to spot during nighttime collections. The product must be child-friendly, with rounded edges and no small parts that could be a choking hazard. The design should be suitable for a target audience of children ages 6-10 and should integrate well with the narrative and illustrations of our book, as it will be used over multiple years as children lose more teeth.

The ToothSafe will be packaged with the children's book and should be presented in a way that enhances its display and user experience. We envision the following two packaging options:

Back Cover Attachment: A temporary backing attached to the back cover, extending visually, with the ToothSafe attached by a removable adhesive.

Removable Sleeve: A sleeve that wraps around the book, featuring a secure slot for the ToothSafe.

Material Considerations:
The ToothSafe should be made from durable and child-safe materials that can withstand regular use over several years. We are considering materials like:

ABS Plastic: Impact-resistant and commonly used in children’s toys.

Silicone: Provides a soft-touch, child-friendly feel.

Polypropylene (PP): Lightweight, durable, and non-toxic.

It should also include glow-in-the-dark elements, potentially using photoluminescent powder embedded into the plastic or as a coating to add to the magical experience of the product.

Manufacturing Considerations:

The design must be suitable for mass production and cost-effective to produce.

It should meet all child safety standards, including being free from lead, phthalates, and any small parts that could pose a choking hazard.

Book Size and Integration:
The book size is set at 8.5 x 8.5 inches to be easily printable and accessible for young children. The ToothSafe will be integrated into the storyline and illustrations of the book, and we would love to see concepts that embrace this interaction.
Wants:
We will evaluate entries based on the following:

Design Creativity: How well does the design capture the magical and whimsical essence of the ToothSafe?

Child-Friendly: Is the product safe, durable, and easy for children ages 6-10 to use independently?

Practicality for Mass Production: How well can the design be manufactured at scale? We want this to be cost-effective and suitable for large-scale production.

Packaging Integration: How well does the design align with our two proposed packaging options (Back Cover Attachment or Removable Sleeve)?

Glow-in-the-Dark Feature: Does the glow-in-the-dark feature add an element of magic without compromising the practicality and safety of the product?

Ease of Use: The ToothSafe should be intuitive for both children and parents, making the ritual of placing the tooth easy and enjoyable.
Don't Wants:
What I Don't Want:

Designs that involve sharp edges or small parts that could pose a choking hazard.

Overly complex mechanisms that would make mass production difficult or expensive.

Excessively ornamental designs that take away from the practicality and user-friendly nature of the ToothSafe. We want the product to feel magical but not overly intricate or fragile.

Here&;s an updated version of the overall update for the contest:

I&;m truly excited by the creativity and effort shown in the designs submitted so far. I wanted to share some general feedback that might be helpful as you refine your submissions or consider new approaches.

The purpose of the ToothSafe is to assist the Tooth Fairy in easily locating a child&;s tooth. The toy should be something that feels like it was designed by the Tooth Fairy herself—a practical tinkerer type with the straightforward elegance of a master craftswoman. The design should have a subtle magic that fits this character: whimsical, yet practical and crafted with purpose.

The most successful designs are those that capture this "tinkerer magic" essence of the Tooth Fairy. This isn&;t about excessive adornments or a traditional fairy aesthetic. Instead, it’s about imagining the Tooth Fairy as a master craftsman whose creations are practical, yet infused with a sense of wonder. The design should feature a special element that makes it feel like a magical creation crafted with intention.

For packaging, think about how the ToothSafe and the book could be presented together in a retail environment. Ideally, I&;d love to see packaging where the book is on the left and the ToothSafe on the right, fitting well for display on store shelves. A simple and elegant solution will often be the most effective here.

Thank you all for your creativity, and I encourage you to keep the ideas coming. This is an exciting journey, and I&;m thrilled to see the magic each of you brings to the project!

Thank you Tarang for the thoughtful question. This will be initially targeting the US market, so bills / currency notes would be necessary. However, an open area that would work with either would also be design appropriate.

Let me know if you have any additional questions. Best, Gerard

As you said, The product should be secure enough that the tooth and money won’t fall out. So "Money" means How much? are they currency notes or coins? It will help me design accordingly.

Simple Miniature Racing Car for STEAM Learning
We have a few STEM / STEAM (science and tech courses for kids) programs we are designing for, including a miniature radio controlled race car, and a miniature radio controlled racing drone. They should run off of a single rechargeable A or AA battery, and we have the basic body shape. Need designs for the computer controllers (Arduino or similar), software, simple radio remote control and system, electric motor systems, and drive systems engineered. We have the basic frame shape. We are looking for simple, field serviceable designs that kids can take apart and put together and use to learn these technologies. Just like everyone, we want it ASAP. What can you offer us?
Simple Miniature Racing Drone for STEM / STEAM Learning

Balance Stepping Toy for Kids
I am looking to manufacture balance stepping stones(set of 6pcs per example). I am looking for an innovative, beautiful and entertaining design. Product intended to use for both indoor and outdoor by 1-9 year old. Product must be resistant, slip-free... Ideally, I'd like to have one single shape (One mould) rather than multiple shapes. But I am open to getting suggestions of multiple shapes if they really stand out. Please check google "Balance stepping stones" to see existing designs in the market. I have attached a few designs as an example.
Fruit Dog Toy Design
Hello--I am looking for designs of a SOFT dog toy where the dog needs to interact with a piece of fruit (the toy) that has it's name embroidered onto it and a voice comes on to encourage the dog to do the task. For example, a banana --the peel would potentially be held up to the stem by Velcro as intact and the dog would have to peel it with his/her teeth. Maybe there is a spot for a treat inside. When pressure is placed on the piece of fruit, a voice comes on to say "Peel Me!" "Peel the banana!" The idea is to make it fun for both dogs and owners. Owners to chuckle at the voice prompts. I also want them to have different sizes in XS, S, M, and L.
Wooden Stacking Rocks for toddlers and kids
Hi, I am looking to create a set that contains innovative stacking rock shapes. I am looking for about 3 to 6 different shapes. Each set will include all the shapes in different quantities(for example, 4pcs of shape 1, 6 pcs of shapes 2...). Here are the specs for the shapes: - Must respect the following: smallest side is bigger than 31.7mm. If the smallest side is smaller than 31.7mm, one of the other 2 sides must be higher than 57.1mm (see for more details https://www.cpsc.gov/Business--Manufacturing/Business-Education/Business-Guidance/Small-Parts-for-Toys-and-Childrens-Products) - Current designs in the market stack only according to z-axis. I would like the shapes to have the ability to stack mainly according to z-axis, but be able to slightly according to x and y-axis(Think about Eiffel tower for example). This allows to enhance creativity and build stuff. - IMPORTANT: Stability: Ability to stack several shapes against each other. For example, ability to stack a combination of a combination of 20 pcs from different shapes according to Z axis. - No weird shapes or lego like - Think about production cost: The smaller the piece would, the less material it will use. Feel free to design a big shape if it is really important.
