About

Having completed three years at university and a 15 month industry placement, I have developed strong CAD skills, specifically using SolidWorks.

During my degree I modelled multiple parts which include: an aerospace landing mechanism, a turboprop propeller with gears and casing, and a Cessna 172 wing with various wing tip designs.

Whilst on my 15 month industry placement, working for a precision engineering company, I would use SolidWorks on a daily basis in order to create a 3D model from an engineering drawing. Modifications would often be needed to the model in order for the part to be machinable on the CNC machines.

Experience

  • Production Engineer IIDEA Ltd · Full-time Jun 2018 – Sep 2019 1 yrs 3 mos Sheffield, England, United Kingdom Converting engineering drawings to 3D models, making any necessary modifications required to make the part machinable. Daily use of CAD/CAM software such as Solidworks and OneCNC XR7. Creating programs using OneCNC Lathe Expert and Mill Expert with 3 + 2 capabilities, carefully selecting the appropriate tools which provides the most efficient way of machining. Calculating feeds and speeds for multiple tools, ensuring the work piece is efficiently machined, whilst providing a quality finish. Monitoring tool wear during milling and turning operations in order to avoid tool failure. Working independently, whilst operating CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual milling machines and lathes, and various sawing machines.

Education

  • Sheffield Hallam Universirty BEng Aerospace Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, First Class Honours 2016 – 2020 Activities and Societies: Formula Student My final year project made use of CAD and CFD software, Solidworks and ANSYS Fluent respectively. The aim of the project was to study the effects of various wing tip designs on a light aircraft wing and what effects they had on the overall performance of the wing.
