Description:
The design of this product is a blend of 2 different products, headphones (earbuds) and a children's ear thermometer. there will be a button on the earpiece to trigger the temperature taking action.
Wants:
Google "ear thermometer" for an idea of the in-ear portion (sort of cone shaped). the ear portion shall have an LED light inside the center of it, to illuminate the ear. there shall also be a button on the outside where the adult could press and trigger the device to start sensing. the button should also have an LED light (potentially the same one) on the cable to the earphone jack it should have a small streamlined housing to hold the electronics for the unit, (can be 3/4 inch wide by 1.5 inch long. by 3/8" thick. cable should enter one end and exit the other. at the opposite end of the cable should be a traditional earphone jack such that would plug into an smart phone. the other option would be to have the headphone jack and the electronics housing all in one, in this case it would be 1" x1" and 3/8" thick with a jack out the bottom in one corner and the cable out the side leading to the earpiece. in both cases only one ear piece is needed. not a 'left and right'
Don't Wants:
something that is not manufacturable, nothing blocky or square, prefer smooth lines.
Ask for Sample:
this is a small project, so i think the sample may also be the finished product.

we can tap power and communication from the headphone jack:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/2011/01/project-hijack-uses-iphone-audio-jack-to-make-cheap-sensors/

the earphone will not stay in place, it will only be used when taking the temperature.

almost all the designs submitted have some sort of LCD display, i will not need a display on any of these.

thanks,
TD

Another thought is how can the smart phone be the display unless you have a mini usb connection going to it with a corresponding smart phone app to translate the data? The headphone out can only transmit audio to the speaker.

So is this supposed to be a headphone that can actually stay in place like earbuds or does it have to physically be held up to the ear? It dont make any sense to be an earphone if it is only going to be used when taking temperature or inspecting ear?

@Antanas:

Using the right impedance matching, one can harvest power out of the audio-jack.
the HiJack project-illustrates data and power transfer through the jack (http://arstechnica.com/apple/2011/01/project-hijack-uses-iphone-audio-jack-to-make-cheap-sensors/)

Best regards

1. I checked prices ~ Intel Bluetooth Modules 6,5 € at Mouser catalog http://eu.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Intel/PBA31308V202-S-LJYU/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMsGelYiB%252bjhZpS9PJgNT5YFsCHlUL5fw30QRa38VGf1iA%3d%3d

2. but the battery still need to use - for temperature sensor, LED's and data transfer to smart phone ...

bluetooth or wi-fi would be great, but then we need batteries. Also, the cost is a critical factor here, and the wireless portion is more expensive. Good suggestion though.

why you use a cable? - maybe better to connect thermometer with smart phone via Blootooth or WiFi?

Similar Contests on Cad Crowd

e-cigarette concept design
Looking for someone to design a concept ecig and then into in to real life 3d render of your design we would also require a 3d model to pass to the mechanical designer. This does not require any mechanical designs it's a concept only. The materials that will be used are black gloss Carbon Fibre as the outer casing tube, with a pattern cut out exposing a rose gold plated tube that can be seen throughout the cuts in the carbon. Other fittings like top & bottom covers, rings and bottom button in rose gold.
Solidworks Car model
I am looking for someone to model in solidworks a replica of a car already on the market. I like super cars and classic cars! The file needs to be somewhat editable in solidworks and renderable in keyshot. The contest is quite open ended, the more detail the better.
Hinge for mailbox
We are designing a thick gauge aluminum mailbox (0.080” aluminum (2024 or similar) front and back; ¼” (6061 or similar) lid). We are having problems finding an off-the-shelf hinge for the lid that meets our evaluation criteria (below). Lid is a thick, flat piece of aluminum, no bends. Final product will be powder-coated.
iPhone Audio Accessory - Music Booster
This product provides an added volume boost to iPhones. Ultimately, we'd like to create an audio booster accessory that plugs directly into an iPhone. You would then be able to plug your headphones into this accessory so you can listen to your music at louder levels. We'd like to have it so you can control the volume/bass/treble levels through a mobile app. If not, then it could be something like this FiiO product (http://fiio.net/en/products/53) but wireless. It would also be similar to this product, but also wireless. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1746450443/uamp-soul-shaking-audio-for-your-ears/description No firm dimensions. At most, it would be as wide as the iPhone itself. Design should look like something Apple would have designed. Something sleek. For colors, use the same colors as the iPhone 6S. There needs to be a Power button, Vol+ button, Vol- button, and either a battery indicator or battery light.
Alfred's Mic's Design Contest
Alfred's Microphones wants to create the worlds first Modular Microphone. The goal is to create a condenser microphone with interchangeable capsules and circuitry for different studio recording applications. Design requirements: 1. Capsule/ head piece must be removable. 2. Circuitry must be removable. 3. All removable parts must be easy and quick to assemble. 3. All removable components must be lockable onto the microphone body for stability and durability. 4. standard male XLR connection for base 5.Circuitry isn't being designed here, just the process to easily interchange the interior circuitry and head piece/capsule without any rewiring involved for the microphone user.
