Hi Everyone, just to clarify the attachment mechanism:
For example, if the transponder was to be attached to the front fork of a bicycle, we would ideally need the transponder housing designed with some slots, grooves, clip or similar to allow it to attach to a bike mount. The trick with the mounting type would be to allow for the transponder to be used in a variety of different applications. For example, in Triathlon, we need to attach the transponder to a velcro strap worn around the ankle.

Hi Artificer-kbg, I have included an STL file of the PCB that we have already designed. All we need is a compact plastic housing for this. We want it to be as small as possible, but without sacrificing on look/appeal and functionality. There is no firm limitation on the size, instead this will be guided by the mechanism you choose to allow for this to be attached to separate bike mounts, straps, etc going forward.
We have already developed the PCB, there is an image attachment of this included with the contest.

Are there any particular dimensional limitations for your product or should I work on my assumptions ?
Also, are you looking for a transponder design or just a casing for the transponder that you already got designed?

Hi Gikam, yes, the housing parts will be injection molded.
Designer
will it be injection molded?

Hi Bruno, the transponder is used to time athletes in water based events such as Triathlon. It needs to be completely waterproof.
This is why we employ a solar cell to keep the LiPo charged. So all we need is a good looking housing consisting of two halves, that we can ultrasonically weld closed and allow for light to reach the solar cell and cater for different mounting options.

Hi,
When you said "completely waterproof " is that means that it will go under water or just some rain ?

In your design, please consider that we are not just looking for a "rectangular block" design. We are looking for something a bit more creative. Thanks.

Hi Hafiz, no the PCB is completely enclosed. We are using a solar cell to charge the LiPo battery and keep the unit charged. So an important design requirement is to allow light to pass through the housing on the one side.
This can possibly be achieved using a clear plastic "window" that is ultrasonically welded to the one half to allow light to pass. Or, it could be that the entire one half is transparent and then we could decorate the inside of the transparent half and keep a section clear for light to pass through.
Please refer to the photo attachment of the PCB. The STL file will have the PCB with a larger block on one side to indicate the dimensions of the LiPo and on the other side a lower height block to indicate the dimensions of the solar cell.
Please let me know if there are any other questions, thanks.

what do you mean by half of the casing? does the half part transparent, so the top pcb exposed?
Buyer
Remember, that we would also like to see how the design could fit into a future designed mount. For example, if we use Cycling as an example, the transponder design should cater for attachment to a separate bike mount. In this contest we are only looking at the transponder housing design itself. We just want to explore concepts to be able to mount/attach the transponder to different objects (Bike Mount, Wrist Strap, etc). Thank you
Buyer
The clear section should be plastic and ultrasonically welded to the top half of the casing. This will make it easier in production.
Designer
is the window for the solar cell also made of plastic, how do you want to install/seal it? using glue or ultrasonic welding?
Designer
sorry, i just relized the solar cell
Designer
How do you charge this, since it&;s waterproof?

You are interested more in design or do you need injection molding ready designs? And could you please attach STEP file as it is much easier to work with. Thank you.
Buyer
Hi Everyone, the design submissions do not have to strictly be compatible with SolidWorks. Please feel free to use the software of your choosing. The most important aspect is for us to confirm the design you submit in relation to the supplied PCB STL file, to confirm fitment. Thank you.
