Description:
We are looking for a creative and skilled product designer to design an innovative piece of wooden furniture for children. This is a project-based opportunity to create something that goes beyond aesthetics—it must solve real-world problems, be practical for families, and bring something unique to the market. Our company specializes in crafting high-quality wooden furniture that supports children’s independence and development. The focus of this project is on concept and innovation: we want to see ideas that introduce new features or multifunctional uses to traditional furniture designs. For example, adding a practical feature like a bookshelf with an integrated drawer or creating multi-purpose furniture that adapts as children grow.
Wants:
Submissions will be evaluated based on the following factors:Innovation and Problem-Solving (40%)
Does the design introduce a new feature or solve a real-world problem for families?
Is the concept unique and not already available in the market?
Functionality and Practicality (30%)
Is the furniture practical for everyday use by children and families?
Does it promote independence and usability for kids?
Feasibility and Manufacturability (20%)
Can the design be realistically produced using wood and common woodworking techniques?
Are the materials and construction methods practical and cost-effective?
Aesthetic Appeal (10%)
Does the design align with modern home decor while being appealing to parents and children?
Is the form complementary to the function without sacrificing innovation?
Bonus Points:
Designs that incorporate multi-functionality (e.g., furniture that adapts or combines uses).
Environmentally friendly designs that minimize waste or use sustainable materials.
Submissions that address these criteria effectively will be prioritized.
Don't Wants:
Aesthetics Over Functionality:Designs that prioritize looks over practicality or usability for families. While aesthetics are important, the primary focus is on solving real problems.
Generic or Existing Designs:
Concepts that already exist in the market or do not introduce a unique feature or innovation.
Overly Complex Designs:
Designs that are difficult to manufacture, assemble, or use. The solution should be practical and feasible for real-world production and family use.
Unsafe or Impractical Ideas:
Designs that do not consider safety standards for children’s furniture, such as sharp edges, instability, or unsuitable materials.
Single-Purpose Without Innovation:
Basic, single-use furniture without added functionality or a creative problem-solving aspect.
Ask for Sample:
As part of your submission, please include a sample of your previous work that demonstrates your experience and skills in product or furniture design. The sample should highlight:
Your ability to create practical, innovative solutions.
Examples of 3D models, sketches, or technical drawings relevant to product or furniture design.
Any past projects that show creativity, problem-solving, or work with wood as a material (preferred but not required).
Additional Information
This is our website: dannicowoodworks.comto see what kind of furniture we currently sell. Our most sold item is a bookshelf that has a drawer on the side and a top compartment for extra storage. Currently there are no others out there that has these features.
Here are some ideas that came to my mind, these are by no means exactly what i want, it's just giving you an idea what kind of furniture I'm thinking about, your pick could be any of these or something completely different or even a combination.

Hi!
I see shelves, a bookshelf and some wardrobe sets in your current portfolio. Any particular thing you are looking to add? A study table-chair set? A drawer case? A bed side table? Some context here would help focus design

Fine art dinning room chairs.
Home dining room chair. Done in 3d and STL format; also add renders for quick viewing. The chair will be 3d printed, so no metal or parts will move. Does not need a pad or fabric as this is 3d printed. You can put a pad, and fabric just makes sure it's not in the final STL file, but it can be in the render file for final looks.
I am looking for designs that can not be easily reproduced. Art and character design or other methods built into the chair. Nice transitions from chair to design, so it's all in one.
You can make it old style with lots of ancient design, add animals and base it off animals, or make it futuristic. Just keep dimensions to life-size proportions and usable in real life.
Make sure this is something you would actually want to sit in.
Chair design for spatial resolution between each piece will need to be no less than 0.75mm.
Don't have samples to give. But an example design would be as follows.
Horse chair
Running horses in the back of chair both sides where your head would be. This would be 3d, so you can see horses from all sides. Transitions to a flat back of the chair for back to site comfy. The chair's back would have some kind of design engraved, maybe a barn or mountains. Design etched ongoing around the seat bottom. The legs of the chair would be horseshoes attached together 4 in a row that gives stability and structure to it. This would then transition down to a horse hoof for the bottom of the leg.
This is just an example of one.
Another example would be a tree base of the chair with roots, a trunk coming up, and branches making the chair.
Keep it unique, and the design should be close to real-life looking if it's an animal or object or anything else. This means not flat objects round them out and makes them real-life-looking. The design can be anything long as it is 3d molded and something not done today. Again when I say 3d, I mean if you make an animal, I don't want flat parts. I want it to look like the animal is coming out of the chair. The design needs to be natural-looking.
Needs to be functional for real life as well. You need to sit in it and be proportional to an actual chair.
Pool Table Design
I need someone who can assist with creating unique design concepts/renderings of pool tables (20 total). We will will pick 5-7 out of the 25 to make revisions too. An example of what I'm looking for is attached. Inspiration can be drawn from Restoration Hardware, Arhaus, Pottery Barn, California House Billiards, AE Schmidt Billiards, Modern Industrial Steel, Rustic Farmhouse, contemporary. This isn't your grandpas pool table:). They're considered high designer furniture and some could have a dining top option available. My team in China/Vietnam will emulate designs you create. They can worry about the industrial aspect (how it's constructed and will be assembled). Typical billiard table size is 100" l x 58"w x 31"h 800 lb. All designs are welcome reflecting any all wood, metal, or steel options.
book case design
we are a custom cabinet shop in the NE of NJ serving the tri state area
need a creative designer for 3-5 projects a week, book cases, wall units, kitchens, other custom projects
Retail Grocery Store Wine Bottle Merchandiser
I'm working on a new project to design a 3 tier, metal, wine bottle merchandiser.
3-tier freestanding display rack
Fits 6 bottles per tier – bottles are 293mm x 92mm (11-1/2” x 3-5/8”)
Small/Med Footprint
Shoppable from both sides would be nice, however, not a requirement
Either metal or acrylic (open to other materials that will give a sleek, polished look)
Clean lines, art deco inspired style The fixture will have 3 tiers, hold 6 bottles per tier (3 facings across the front x 2 deep). The fixture will need a 6" base plate to keep to FDA store requirements of all food/drink off the floor at 6".
The approximate height will be 52" + a sign holder/sign channel that will allow the store to slide in a 5/16" thick plastic sign.
The approximate side to side width will be 18" and the approximate back to front depth will be 15"
Transformer Wooden Deck Chair
We're looking to find a design that best demonstrates the 2D drafting, 3D modeling and rendering capabilities of CMS IntelliCAD CAD Software and Artisan Render for IntelliCAD.
We're looking for a deck chair design that also can be transformed as a sun lounger or outdoor table.
