I am a mechanical engineer and have worked in some sort of design or manufacturing setting for almost 10 years. I specialize in helping companies do three things: 1. Making your product more cost-efficient to produce 2. Refining your product so that it is easy for the customer to use 3. Accelerating your development process. I know speed is key when getting any new project started so I get you what you need ASAP. Some of my accomplishments so far -Helped a company that raised 500k in crowdfunding to develop the product they are now selling, reducing their manufacturing cost by over 20% -Helped a company raise their first round of funding by designing and prototyping their first product -Worked with product development firms with large customers to work out kinks in their designs and fabricate their prototypes -Worked with another crowdfunding campaign to make develop their beta-testing product. -Designed tooling for robotic arms to automate manufacturing processes resulting in massive reduction in labor cost I am proficient in the following disciplines -SolidWorks 2018 -Inventor 2018 -FEA (Finite Element Analysis - finding the weak points in a structural design) -Rapid prototyping (3D Printing, CNC Machining, etc.) -Design for manufacturing I work with a small 3D Printing company here in Chicago that can produce very high quality 3D prints with an excellent turnaround time. I also have a complete workshop with saws/mills/drills/CNC where I can build pieces or prototypes for virtually any project. I love working with startups to get their product moving. First of all, I make all the controls of the 3d data you have according to the technical drawing, if it is a drawing that cannot be removed from the mold, we create the molding process, then I create the female mold and remove the separation line and make it male in the 3d environment. Injection Molding is serious business. Correct design of the mold is very important for the mold to have a long life and to work efficiently. I have designed various machinery including road tankers, generating sets, pumps, compressors, hydraulic mechanical handling equipment, lifting gear and even a battery powered mobile hoist for Torness Nuclear power station. I have received industrial training in the UK from National Grid, the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA) and the National Fluid Power Centre (NFPC). I am an expert with Inventor, and in recent years have also become competent with Fusion 360 and Solidworks. CAD software is so good nowadays, that it is quite easy to model something. Where I have proven to be outstanding is with my application of mechanical design analysis and enough experience to know how to apply theoretical methods to reality and what works. Where necessary I can present comprehensive design substantiation e.g. to meet design standards such as BS / ISO or machinery directive and obtain CE / UKCA marking. I am expert with MathCAD and Excel for producing and presenting calculations that have held up to scrutiny. Where appropriate I will produce FEA with Inventor and ANSYS for stress analysis of more complex geometry and loading situations. During my Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering (later incorporated to MSc), I studied the numerical methods involved in FEA, and this combined with experience in aftermarket looking at part failure with Howden Process Compressors, now informs how I use these tools and allows me to use FEA effectively and realistically. I have solid understanding of key manufacturing processes including machining, fabrication, welding, and fitting, having always worked closely with the shop floor, soaking up knowledge and enjoying the camaraderie. I am interested in innovative technology and in recent years I have produced successful designs for mechanical components made by 3d printing of plastic. I have extensive knowledge of industrial components and suppliers and have often saved the time and expense of design and manufacture by knowing of an appropriate off-the-shelf part.
