My name is Robert Holden and I find the right balance for successful project design. Projects begin with ideas. Ideas convert to goals. Attaining goals often require a physical environment to accomplish. ►This is the point where I join the conversation. I begin with a detailed scope of work based on a legacy of successful projects. ►Next, schematic design is an iterative process where investigation compiles constraints. ►Constraints are documented in a program. Once approved, the program is the basis for graphic representations of conceptual designs. ►With a selected design concept, design development begins, documented methods, materials and components are incorporated into the program. ►A completed program is melded into a construction model. The model is carved into construction documents. ►Construction documents are divided by trade. Each trade submits a proposal for construction. ►With accepted proposals, construction administration begins with site mobilization and kickoff. This is the point where conversations that I initiated have been expressed, work now delegated to trades, I remain available for clarifications and change orders, only as required. The aforementioned steps have successfully attained many goals. At times I'm a team member on large complex projects. The largest projects may take months of work to complete. Sometimes I work alone on small projects. On very small projects these steps may be accomplished within hours. I have served as a Technician for numerous highway projects, which my responsibilities have included civil and structural engineering, drafting for preliminary and final design contract documents; cross sections, profiles, roadway alignment sheets; maintenance and protection plans; topographic and planimetric maps; graphic illustrations for promotional presentations and traffic counting. For me, product design is not just about solving puzzles. It’s about connecting with people through the things we create and making a product that solves a problem in their lives. I love the process of bringing an idea or a product to the next level, whether I’m creating an industrial design to satisfy the market’s demands, a functional prototype to get people’s attention, or a mass-manufacturable model to bring down costs. In 2013 I bought my first 3D printer as a kit, and used it to start a small business called Mindforge Design. As part of Mindforge, I designed and sold Maryland-themed 3D printed items to the University of Maryland community. Eventually I built a printer of my own which evolved into Readybox, the fastest consumer 3D printer on the market at the time. Readybox had a successful Kickstarter campaign in late 2015, reaching and exceeding its funding goal in only 18 hours. Since graduating in 2017 with a BS in mechanical engineering I’ve been working as a mechanical engineer at Harbor Designs and Manufacturing, where I’ve designed mechanical systems and parts for a multitude of consumer products. In 2002, after high school, I went directly into trade school and earned my AutoCAD Certification. Little did I know that I would be in the AEC field for the next 12 years. I regularly spend 8+ hours a day, working on schools and other similar buildings, making large sums of money for other people, whilst barely making ends meat for all of my hard work. This is the reason I've decided to go freelance. Coordinating electrical systems in building has become my strong suite. Although I went into CAD classes with dreams of making video games and 3D models, I have not been able to find the right the right company or the right location. Alas, I have continued to build complex 3D models for BIM coordination. But, no more! I’m hoping that if you've found this website you have an idea, maybe a hand drawn sketch or two, or even some old drawings that you’d like to have converted to a digital format.
