About

I am the director of Mechanika Ltd (▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒ and a consultant Stress Engineer. I have solid all-round engineering ability and I am a SQEP calculation checker/signatory and calculation author. I have held stress signatory status for 8 years, whilst substantiating high integrity, safety critical equipment and structures. I can apply my expertise to metallic, polymer or composite structures and mechanisms in any industry. I have primary interests in remote handling, precision medical devices, fluidics, mechanism design, complex structures and heavy lifting equipment.

I enjoy all areas of design; with specific expertise in mechanisms, traditional static and dynamic hand calculations, seismic assessment, FEA, classical mechanics on mechanisms and structures, fatigue and failure investigations and injection moulded product design. I am a good communicator and enjoy presenting to stake-holders.

I am an expert user of ANSYS Workbench, RFEM/RSTAB, Solidworks and MathCAD with licenses for all of the aforementioned software. I can produce substantiation calculations to allowable stress and limit state methods and I have extensive experience in producing calculations to numerous codes – primarily BS EN 13001 (crane code), F.E.M Section I & II, Eurocodes, BS2573 parts 1 and 2, BS5950.

I am a well-rounded individual with a proven track record in a number of diverse industries, including: cranes/heavy lifting equipment and mechanisms, remote handling, bulk materials handling, precision medical devices, aerospace actuators/valves, hydraulics and general consumer products.

I regard analysis and mechanical design as integral entities and I offer design by substantiation services, where equipment is designed to be code compliant from it's inception. I have had several of my designs patented and I take pride in pioneering new engineering concepts and technology.

Experience

  • Managing Director Mechanika Ltd · Oct 2010 – Present 14 yrs 1 mos Oxford, UK Mechanika is an expert engineering consultancy, specialising in the application of high level FEA and traditional static and dynamic hand calculations to carry out advanced engineering analysis, engineering design, and full product development. We regard analysis and design as integral entities and we offer design by substantiation services, where equipment and structures are designed to be code compliant and fit for purpose from their inception.

We are specialists in core areas which are paramount for all mechanical, structural and product designs. We pride ourselves on our advanced understanding of the core principles of engineering science, mathematics, design and FEA to enable us to guide the design process and help our clients to produce products and technologies that maximize their technical potential and have well documented performance, safety and reliability margins – providing functional and commercial success for our clients.

Mechanika is represented by chartered mechanical and structural engineers, operating strictly in accordance with international best practice guidelines of their institutions – Institution of Mechanical Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers. We abide by best practice of FEA methods, verification and validation, as stipulated by NAFEMS, in all of our work.

Our design and analysis services are provided on a fixed price basis, with set deliverables from the customer. We cater for small/medium enterprise companies right the way up to global organisations, across all industries – predominantly: Bulk Materials Handling, Aerospace, Oil & Gas, Consumer Products, Medical, Marine and construction.

Mechanika works in partnership with Mintronics who are the authorised reseller for all Dlubal FEA software in the UK. We provide training and implementation for Dlubal clients. We deliver technical presentations and workshops on the application and use of Dlubal Finite Element Analysis software, as well as direct training at your premises.
