I am a meticulous and results oriented mechanical engineer with PhD from the US, currently working as a mechanical design engineer/project manager in product development

I am PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP) with three years of experience in research and product development. I help companies to develop their product offerings by utilizing my technical, project management and analytical skills. Some of my significant contributions and achievements are:

1. Designed and supervised the fabrication and testing of a scaled glass fibre reinforced polymer composite made wave energy converter demonstrator structure within a constrained budget of €60000, at NUI Galway.
2. Spearheaded a product improvement project to design and develop a hybrid concrete pedestal for wastewater treatment plant mixers, with a projected sales generation of €100k at Sulzer Pumps Ireland.
3. Investigated warranty issues in a household light drainage pump, leading a team of 2 technicians by 3D printing and testing design modifications of the switch causing the problem.
4. Led a team of four to design at Bajaj Steel Industries, develop and test an improved ginned cotton conveying system, saving about 70% in power consumption.

Some of my contributions and achievements in research are:

1. Investigated the effect of defects and imperfections in adhesive bonded composites as part of PhD programme funded by L3 Harris at Baylor University, USA.
2. Awarded a grant of €53,727 from Science Foundation Ireland to study moisture behaviour of recycled carbon fibres while working as a post-doc researcher at NUI Galway, Ireland.
3. Published three research articles in reputed peer-reviewed research journals and presented posters and papers at international conferences.

Experience

  • Mechanical Design Engineer Sulzer Pump Solutions Ireland Ltd · Full-time Jul 2022 – Present 2 yrs 5 mos Wexford, WX, Ireland • Reviewed drawings and designs of existing wastewater pump products including tolerance stack up analysis and motor specifications to perform analytical structural calculations for wastewater pumps and associated equipment.
    • Designed and optimized using SIEMENS NX, a hybrid concrete pedestal for various models of sewage treatment plant mixers to make the product line more uniform, resulting in a saving of 100k Euros
    • Investigated design issues in float switch mechanism of household light drainage pump range including prototype design, FMEA, rapid prototyping (3D Printing), test scoping and planning of candidate solutions and subsequent testing, leading a team of 4.
    • Prepared 3D CAD models including Bill of Materials (BOM) and generated 2D drawings for the various wastewater pump equipment.
    • Analysed losses and coordinated efficiency testing of electric motors as per IEC 60034 standards.
    • Delivered two product improvement projects and three technical support projects for wastewater pumps and mixing equipment on time.
    • Collaborated with cross-functional teams including engineers, technicians, and sales personnel to gather requirements and propose solutions.

  • Post doctoral researcher National University of Ireland, Galway · Full-time Feb 2021 – Jul 2022 1 yrs 5 mos Galway, G, Ireland • Verified existing structural calculations on an ocean wave energy generator.
    • Calculated structural integrity using FRP composite material as a replacement to steel and concrete to achieve weight reduction by approximately 90%.
    • Designed 3D CAD model on Autodesk Inventor of the test demonstrator and released to industry partner for fabrication.
    • Verified structural integrity of the wave energy generator structure using FE analysis performed on ABAQUS CAE.
    • Performed a structural test on a scaled demonstrator structurer of the wave energy converter.
    • Awarded a fellowship grant from Science Foundation Ireland for the hygrothermal testing of Recycled Carbon Fibre composites, among 27 grants awarded in 2021.
