About

I am a curious designer aspiring to integrate creativity and manufacturability in all of my work. I have a bachelor's of science in mechanical engineering with a variety of professional experience. I am currently in a rotational program where I try 3 different rotations in a 1.5 year period. I have most notably gained experience designing for additive manufacturing (DfAM), modification for additive manufacturing (MfAM), and designing for machining (not sure if there is an acronym for this).

Experience

  • Design Engineer Honeywell Aerospace · Full-time Jul 2023 – Present 1 yrs 5 mos Phoenix, AZ, United States As a design engineer I am starting to develop parts for the latest turboshaft engine product. During the conceptual design process I work with my team to come up with creative solutions to manufacturability issues like casting lead times and complex geometries.

I am also learning how to efficiently apply GD&T callouts to technical drawings and undergo the design release process.
  • Additive Manufacturing Engineer Honeywell Aerospace · Full-time Jan 2023 – Jul 2023 6 mos Phoenix, AZ, United States As an additive manufacturing engineer, I was responsible for developing the additive manufacturing process for research and production parts.

My day-to-day involved a systematic process beginning with customer calls to learn what is required from a part and to provide insight on additive design and post-processing techniques. Subsequently, any required design changes and/or support creation are implemented and ultimately programmed on the machines.

In this role I also performed structured light scanning and analyzed the results. This allowed me and the team to rapidly iterate designs as close to the required tolerance as possible.

Ultimately, everyday was something new and challenging. Working alongside skilled technicians and engineers refined my understanding of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF), manufacturing, and a holistic understanding of design for manufacturing.
  • Project Engineer Honeywell Aerospace · Full-time Jul 2022 – Jan 2023 6 mos Phoenix, AZ, United States As a project engineer, I supported high fidelity investigations for the Legacy engine product line, through technical analysis of data and critical review of engine specifications. In addition, I bridged the gap between the customers' needs and the company's by collaborating with subject matter experts (SME's) to deliver solutions, data, and engineering reports when required.

Through it all, I maintained a strict level of confidentiality, and export restriction for the safety of the company and our nation.
  • Systems Engineering Intern Honeywell Aerospace · Full-time Jun 2021 – Aug 2021 2 mos Phoenix, AZ, United States I rejoined Honeywell's Flight Controls team and learned how to proficiently read and analyze ethernet hex data. I was tasked with figuring out and produced a method to interpret flight test inputs in hex data, test that the flight control computer (FCC) passed the command, and output a summary table. Although I was challenged beyond my level of scripting knowledge at the time, I gained a much deeper understanding of ethernet communication, and Python.
  • Systems Engineering Intern Honeywell Aerospace · Full-time Jun 2020 – Aug 2020 2 mos Phoenix, AZ, United States While working with Flight Controls, I gained a greater understanding of Compact Fly By Wire (CFBW) systems, and produced flight simulations. To achieve this, I developed MATLAB scripts and integrated airplane models into a complex flight simulation system.

This experience was particularly unique due to the remote-work/COVID-19 friendly environment. However, it opened the opportunity to embrace virtual teamwork and communication.

Education

  • Grand Canyon University Science and Technology, Mechanical Engineeering 2018 – 2022 Activities and Societies: Resident Assistant, Engineering Shop Enthusiast, Student Worker (Office Assistant and Math Tutor), Club Baseball, FSAE, Outdoor Recreation, and Ping Pong club. Grand Canyon University offered me extensive opportunities to be immersed in the college atmosphere both socially and academically. On campus, I was challenged with balancing rigorous academic requirements with a lively social environment. For example, Freshman year days started out with several hours of classes and school work, and concluded with everchanging social events, with many people. This balancing act was an absolute thrill...yet draining at times.

As a result, I learned the value of prioritization. Relationally, this looked like me investing in a close group of friends, instead of jumping between social events. Looking back, that was my greatest accomplishment in college.

In short, my "college experience" was a transformation. I met my soon to be wife, lifelong friends, Newton-like intellectuals, and mentors. I learned about riveting scientific subjects and about what I don't know.

Other experience

  • Math Tutor As a math tutor at Grand Canyon University, I assisted students with 100-300 level courses including but not limited to: college algebra, precalculus, trigonometry, calculus 1, and introductory finance.
  • Ground Operations Assistant With Grand Canyon Education, I assisted fellow students by checking them in to visit their counselors, and packaged mail for prospective students. I supported a wide-range of people, students, and parents with their academic advisory needs. I also learned and practiced how to effectively operate within a professional environment.
  • Salmon Processor As a "Header", my team and I processed every salmon entering the factory. I also cleaned and operated heavy machinery such as the Hopper, Heading machine, and Gutting machine.

Additionally, this experience taught me how to collaborate with a team during 16 hour shifts, and physical fatigue.
